Description:

Kingway breathable membrane is a three layer highly breathable, fully waterproof membrane. constructed from high tensile spun-bonded polypropylene layers, around a microporous polypropylene film. The outer layer forms the functional waterproof surface; The middle layer is the breathable waterproof membrane and the inner layer protects the membrane from abrasion and damage, also giving additional strength. This enables the fabric to allow moisture vapour to pass through, whilst remaining fully waterproof.

For new build and building extensions, greater emphasis is placed upon the buildings energy performance and modern methods of construction are increasingly leading to the requirement for building envelopes to be constructed airtight.

Modern materials and techniques are used together to minimise and restrict air leakage through the building fabric and out into the external environment, thus increasing the energy efficiency of the building fabric. The impact on roofing means that older systems which rely upon conventional cross flow ventilation are no longer suitable and our approach should be that of unventilated warm and cold roof systems incorporating the KINGWAY Breathable Membrane.

Applications:

Provide an effective solution to protect the building and its occupants from harmful effects of interstitial condensation and external climatic conditions including wind, snow and wind driven rain.

Typically the stronger the weight of the pitched roof underlay, the stronger it is, but this also depends on the product’s composition.

The products have been developed for use in cold and warm pitched roof applications, and are suitable for use draped and unsupported, or fully supported on sarking or insulation boards.

Breathable roofing underlay positioned immediately above the insulation layer in a warm pitched roof, or in a cold pitched roof (ventilated or unventilated). • This three-layer material is contact and intended for both formworked and non-formworked pitched roof structures

• The diffusion properties of the material ensure the passage of water vapor, thereby helping to ventilate the space covered by the foil

• In the case of installation on rafters, it is not necessary to create an air gap between the thermal insulation and the membrane

• It must be stored without access to UV radiation, and it is also necessary to cover it with roofing or facade cladding as soon as possible after application, within a maximum of 3 weeks

How to Install:

1. Lay it printed side up so water runs off correctly.

2. Overlap joints:

  • Roof pitch 12.5°–15°: 225 mm horizontal lap (unsupported) / 150     mm (supported).

  • Roof pitch ≥15°: 150 mm lap.

3.Fixing:

• Can be draped over rafters and secured with battens, or laid taut with counter battens.

• Fully supported installs (e.g. over sarking boards or OSB) also suitable.

4. Keep it watertight – use  tape version for sealing overlaps.

5. Protect from prolonged UV exposure before tiles/slates go on.

6. Repair damage before covering – patch neatly so performance isn’t compromised.
